   HOE HE'E NALU The Hawaiian translation means standup paddle surfing. In Hawaiian, "hoe" means paddle... "he'e" means to surf or slide...and "nalu" means wave. You don't have to possess a Hawaiian royalty bloodline or be King Xtreme Laird to participate in the rebirth of this old school surfing sport popularized by the Waikiki "beach boys"...who used outrigger canoe paddles to surf waves standing up...but, it's not just about surfing...paddling and GLIDE is what ties this sport to the ancient Polynesians...and is why world class surfers such as Laird, Kalama, Gerry Lopez, Buzzy Kerbox, Brian Keaulana, Loch Eggers, Sean Ordonez, Slater, Machado, Malloy brothers, Dave Parmenter...etc..etc...and many other watermen, and women, have embraced it... Standup paddle boards can roughly be divided into two classes...those better at paddling with more glide...commonly referred to as "downwind" boards, and those optimized for waveriding...of course, all colors of the rainbow exist on the spectrum in between... To experience the incredible feeling that led to the development of surfing and related surfing sports...the board has to have some natural glide...and to harness that glide, the board has to have some stability...our master shaper, Sean Ordonez, is a world class waterman, and has developed our line of standup paddle boards to do just that...optimize the perfect blend of glide, stability, and wave worthiness...  Sean Ordonez (master shaper/surfer) gouging a sweet cutback on Big Red  SO dropping in.  SO showing some backside soul style. As you can see from the pics above, once Sean catches a wave, he uses the paddle for balance and to help initiate turns. The paddle is a natural extension of the surfer. You will access spots that most surfers can't get to, or don't care to ride... Standup paddling is also a way for people to just enjoy being on the water, getting a core body workout...while paddling sections of coast...but, it's not just for the ocean...you can use the boards to cruise rivers, coves, bays, and lakes.  No Wind...No Waves...No Worries... Much more elegant and regal than sitting on top of a generic plastic kayak, paddling with a generic plastic paddle...  New and challenging...but, also has ancient roots and soul.
